image Sierra On-Line was initially On-Line Systems, started by Ken Williams in 1975 as a computer network consulting practice. Enthused by a text game the two had discovered, his wife Roberta convinced him to develop a game she had designed. Mystery House was released in 1980, becoming the first graphical adventure game.

After Mystery House, six more titles were released. Having relocated from Los Angeles to Oakhurst, a short distance south of Yosemite National Park, the company was renamed Sierra On-Line in 1982. ...
