So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Using a cloud service is the fastest way to get started, but not everyone wants to have their infrastructure managed by someone else. You might not want to rely on a third-party vendor, for example, or maybe you just want to understand how the system works in order to tinker with it for fun.
But this can also be driven by security or legal considerations. If your data sources aren’t connected to the Internet, then a cloud-based solution won’t be useful to you no matter how convenient it is. Having the option to run your own Grafana instance inside of a disconnected environment lets you visualize your data while still meeting your isolation requirements.
