4. Connecting to Data Sources

In the previous chapters, we’ve looked at how to use panels and build dashboards with sample data. While this can be fun, it’s not really particularly useful. What we really want to do is visualize real data.

Since Grafana doesn’t actually store your data directly, to visualize real data we need to connect Grafana to the data sources where that data resides. A data source in Grafana is a plugin that provides a connection to the application or service that contains the data.
