Chapter 50. Fast Simulation of Radiographic Images Using a Monte Carlo X-Ray Transport Algorithm Implemented in CUDA
Andreu Badal and Aldo Badano.
In this chapter, we describe a Monte Carlo algorithm for the simulation of x-ray transport and show how this algorithm can be efficiently implemented in a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). The main application of our new simulation code is the evaluation of medical radiographic imaging systems. Example simulations of projection imaging and compute tomography (CT) using a realistic voxel-based human anatomy model are presented. MC-GPU [1] [2] and [3] , the C/CUDA [4] code implementing the presented algorithm, is in the public domain and is openly and freely distributed at the website: http://code.google.com/p/mcgpu/ ...
