A guitar — like any other machine — is subject to wear and tear: The strings go bad, or they break; climate changes shrink and swell the wood; moving parts wear out, and so forth. These afflictions and deteriorations can prevent you from properly expressing yourself with your instrument and can increase your tendency to express yourself in other, less printable, ways. If you want to keep your guitar on the straight and narrow, you should know how to perform some basic maintenance and repairs.
