Microsoft has announced its intentions to update the XML support in SQL Server via periodic updates called Web releases. The first of these is in beta test as I write this. It should be out later this year. It promises to add significant functionality to SQL Server's XML support. Among the new features Microsoft has announced are:
Updategram support—Updategrams are templatelike documents that you can use to insert, update, and delete SQL Server data. An option will be added to the Configure SQL XML Support In IIS tool to allow you to enable updategrams to be posted to a virtual directory.
XML bulk load—This will be a COM component that you can use to load XML data quickly into a database in a manner analogous to the T-SQL BULK INSERT ...
