So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

UNIX
UNIX is the most influential operating system ever. UNIX’s core design, including how it manages the kernel and a multiuser environment, is the foundation for a wide range of popular operating systems, from FreeBSD and macOS to Android and many hundreds of other Linux-based operating systems. Even recent versions of Microsoft Windows, the only major operating system that does not have a UNIX-derived kernel, have built-in support for Linux applications and operating systems. And, of course, Linux is derived from UNIX.
UNIX was born at Bell Labs in 1969, from a project led by Ken Thompson and Dennis Ritchie. It was initially an improved timesharing system for the DEC PDP-7 minicomputer. In the 1970s, Ritchie and Thompson helped to develop the C programming language so that UNIX could be ported to other types of computers. This initiative was so successful that UNIX spawned an amazing variety of operating systems, open source and proprietary, for almost every kind of computer you can think of.
