While it is possible to use a Hall-effect transducer as a magnetic measuring instrument with merely the addition of a stable power supply and a sensitive voltmeter, this is not a typical mode of application. More frequently the transducer is used in conjunction with electronics specially designed to properly bias it and perform some preprocessing of the resultant signals before presenting them to the end-user. The addition of application-specific electronics provides significant value by allowing the end-user to view the system as a black-box, without having to concern himself with the details of how the transducer is implemented.
