Experimental Heat Transfer

Experiments in heat transfer are used for the validation of equipment and process design. Estimation of heat transfer rate, heat transfer coefficients and thermal conductivity of materials are the main objectives of laboratory experiments. Many times smaller models of the actual equipments are built and studied in the laboratory for their heat transfer performance. The variables to study a heat transfer process are measured using suitable instrumentation and compared with the desired set values. If there is a difference between them, then it may be corrected either manually or with the help of an automatic controller as shown in Figure 11.1.
