En esencia, toda instalación de Python consta de dos cosas: un intérprete y módulos. Los módulos, a su vez, proceden de la biblioteca estándar y de paquetes de terceros, si has instalado alguno. Juntos, proporcionan los componentes esenciales que necesitas para ejecutar un programa Python: un entorno Python(Figura 2-1).
Las instalaciones de Python no son el único tipo de entorno de Python. Los entornos virtuales son entornos despojados que comparten el intérprete y la biblioteca estándar con una instalación completa. Los utilizas para instalar paquetes de terceros para un proyecto o aplicación concretos, mientras mantienes prístino el entorno de todo el sistema.
