The first technique for improving system serviceability is to deploy equipment that can be serviced without bringing down the entire computing system. Online system maintenance gives you the flexibility to perform repair work at a convenient time, instead of waiting until there are no users at all on the system (an increasingly rare occurrence) or deliberately causing an outage.
