Build Your Professional Networks
Effective networking, as we said back in Chapter Two, is about deciding to do it well, preparing to network, talking to the right people in the right way, getting through to the Decision Maker, and landing a job. Of course, talking to people is the heart of the process.
In the previous chapter, we looked at talking to personal contacts and how that’s a great way to get your job search moving. In fact, I’ve seen many, many job hunters who never get much beyond personal contacts. They talk to friends and acquaintances and someone happens to know someone at the right organization. They make a phone call, get an interview, and it’s done—without any professional networking at all.
