5.1 SDMC
This section provides a brief description to IBM Systems Director Management Console. It
touches upon the advantages of using it over HMC and IVM. It also throws some light on
high-availability options, and it covers the command line interface of the IBM Systems
Director Management Console.
5.1.1 Overview of SDMC
The IBM Systems Director Management Console (SDMC) is the successor to the Hardware
Management Console (HMC) and the Integrated Virtualization Manager (IVM).
The HMC is designed for management of Power Systems from entry level servers to high-end
systems. Management of entry systems can also be done with the IVM, a function of the
