Use headings to organize information into a logical structure.

Format of headings

Format headings consistently and logically:

• In books and topic-based information, do not number headings other than chapter titles. Numbering headings and subheadings is acceptable in articles, white papers, quick start guides, and other shorter publications.

• Make sure that the typographic style is consistent for each heading of a particular level in your publication. Use the formatting features of your authoring tool to apply a consistent style.
