It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Secondary system: The secondary system does not need to be connected to any other
XRC components during normal operation.
SDM: The SDM needs to be connected to all primary volumes, to all secondary volumes
and to the journal, control, and state data sets. The journal, control, and state data sets
will generally reside at the secondary site.
Recovery operation
During recovery operation, that is, when executing the XRECOVER command, the SDM only
needs access to the secondary volumes and the journal, control, and state data sets. Primary
volumes, if connected, should be varied off-line.
