This appendix discusses the structure benefits of z/Linux and the best practices with hardware configuration of z/Linux to support WebSphere, along with the scaling of z/Linux with respect to WebSphere workloads.
z/Linux is a true Linux Operating System running on top of z/Series hardware. If configured properly, it provides the following benefits:
It inherits all of the z/Series hardware reliability, availability, and serviceability.
It can be much less costly on a Mip basis compared to z/OS (see IFLs below).
