14.1. Video Mapping European Center according to Antoine Manier

The association Rencontres Audiovisuelles has been working on images for 20 years. Anchored in the Hauts-de-France region, it aims to provide the regional public with access to independent audio-visual content that is barely or not very visible. Born in 1998 from short film enthusiasts, it has since expanded to include various forms of digital images. The association is focused on dissemination, education, image training and support for artists. Ten years ago, Rencontres Audiovisuelles took a stronger interest in projection mapping for what this art form brings that is different. Projection mapping brings other dimensions to reality and opens up a vast field of practice for artists. The association created the Video Mapping European Center to support the development of the sector in Europe and in particular in the Hauts-de-France region. The projection mapping sector is showing itself to be unstructured in France, but also in Europe. However, it is a market with about 150 high-performance companies. In 2018, it is launching a festival dedicated to this digital art. About a third of the team is now involved in the Video Mapping Festival project.

Having appeared about 15 years ago, this projection mapping first made itself known to the public through its monumental projections on heritage, which are at the basis of many urban routes (Le Mans, Chartres, ...
