È la disciplina che consiste nell'integrare l'interpretabilità nei sistemi, ovvero la progettazione deliberata di dati, metadati e feedback in modo che sia gli esseri umani che le macchine possano ragionare su ciò che sta accadendo.
L'idea non è nuova. Per decenni, gli ingegneri del software hanno creato API, schemi e mappe di servizi per dare una struttura al caos. Ciò che è cambiato sono la portata e le conseguenze: quando i modelli di IA iniziano a operare insieme agli esseri umani, il contesto non è solo utile, ma diventa fondamentale.
Senza di esso, l'intelligenza, umana o artificiale, si degrada in rumore.
La disciplina mancante
Ogni rivoluzione tecnica ha un livello intermedio dimenticato.
L'ingegneria dei dati è ottimizzata per la produttività. L'osservabilità è ottimizzata per la visibilità. L'IA è ottimizzata per la previsione. Ma nessuno è ottimizzato per il significato.
L'ingegneria del contesto colma questa lacuna. Non sostituisce queste discipline, ma le collega. Definisce come le informazioni dovrebbero comportarsi nei sistemi: come trasmettono intenzioni, provenienza, proprietà e significato.
