Chapter 12. Routing Algorithm Concepts

In this chapter, I discuss the third piece in the network layer protocol: the routing algorithms and protocols. There are basically two types of distributed routing algorithms:

  1. Distance vector

  2. Link state

All the popular network layer routing protocols are based on one or the other. In this chapter, I consider these distributed routing protocols generically. In Chapter 14, I examine specific routing protocols derived from them.
