This chapter covers the specifics of several routing protocols. I start the discussion of each protocol by describing some of the concepts you need in order to understand the protocol. Then I show the specific packet formats.

The discussion begins with intradomain protocols. The distance vector intradomain protocols are RIP (IP), RTMP (AppleTalk), RIP (IPX), and DECnet Phases 3 and 4. The link state intradomain protocols are IS-IS (IP, CLNP), NLSP (a version of IS-IS for IPX), OSPF (IP), and PNNI (ATM).
