Most IoT products are sold by highlighting a long list of some cool and exciting features, in which security comes last and sometimes is not on the list at all. Many researchers have shown that security is considered just another feature of the product for which consumers are not willing to pay a premium, which in turn doesn't encourage the product manufacturers to put extra effort and cost into adding the necessary security features. This ignorance toward security can prove to be a disaster for both the consumer and product manufacturers in the long run.
