SHIFTING APPROACH

The third trap that executives fall into in leading their organizations through change is mistaking natural resistance for total opposition.

Change is often threatening, particularly when it's imposed. Even something as seemingly innocuous as a new e-mail system causes people to lose the level of competence they had using the previous system. They must go through an uncomfortable transition as they learn something new. This leads to self-doubt and fear of looking bad—natural reactions when people are confronted with something unfamiliar.
