XDCR topologies

You can configure XDCR in various ways depending on your application or business needs. Let's understand some of the topologies that XDCR supports.

Unidirectional

In unidirectional topology, documents are replicated in one direction from the source to the remote cluster. It is usually used for read or reporting purposes, offsite backup, development/testing copies, and so on.

Bidirectional

In bidirectional topology, documents are replicated both ways between two clusters, that is, replicated buckets are active in both the clusters. The basic use cases for this topology are disaster recovery and datacenter locality.
