The rise and fall of package management tools

The TypeScript ecosystem has experienced the rise and fall of many package managers over the past few years. This generated some confusion in the early days of TypeScript but, fortunately, today we have a much more stable ecosystem.

Some notable package managers in the TypeScript history include tsd, typings, npm, bower, yarn, and turbo. Some package managers, such as tsd, typings, and bower, are not recommended anymore, and others, such as yarn or turbo, are relatively new and not as widely adopted as npm. The recommended package manager at the time of writing is npm.
