Components and directives

The existing Angular literature contains a lot of references to what are known as directives. Sometimes directives are mentioned as something that can be used together with components as if they were the same thing. The truth is that components are a kind of directive. The following has been extracted from the official Angular documentation:

There are three kinds of directives in Angular:
  • Components-directives with a template.
  • Structural directives-change the DOM layout by adding and removing DOM elements.
  • Attribute directives-change the appearance or behavior of an element, component, or another directive.
