It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Configuring a virtual backup proxy
In Chapter 1, Introduction to Veeam® Backup & Replication v7 for VMware, we set up our first Veeam Backup & Recovery server, with a local repository, on a physical host. Since we do not want to use the slower Network transport mode, we need to configure a backup proxy to speed up the backup process.
- Prepare a VM that can act as a backup proxy. I have used a fresh Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 VM for this purpose.
Tip
The GUI-less Windows Server 2012 Core edition is a prime candidate for backup proxies. Since these are remotely managed through Veeam Backup & Replication, there is no need for a local GUI. Running on the Core edition uses less memory and disk resources, and since there are fewer things to manage ...
