INTRODUCTION
Christopher Simmons is a designer, writer, and educator. His passion and interest in exploring
the increasingly complex notion of identity has lead him to develop and teach courses on the subject
at the California College of the Arts and San Francisco’s Academy of Art University. An advocate
for the power of design, he also lectures at colleges, universities, and professional associations
on topics ranging from collaborative work models and the role of language in graphic design to
issues of professional, ethical, and sustainable practice. His first book,
Logo Lab
, was released in
June 2005. Christopher is the president of the San Francisco chapter of the American Institute
of Graphic Arts (AIGA).
In 2004, Christopher launched his own independent design office, affectionately named MINE™.
MINE was founded with the philosophy that good design is good business, and that working smart
beats working big. A multidisciplinary studio, MINE offers innovative and informed solutions as
tools to support corporate, enterprise, and nonprofit organizations. Emphasizing intelligence-
based design and sound strategic thinking, MINE seeks to create definitive, stand-out work
that projects a unique position of leadership and promotes the highest standards of excellence.
