I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
GLOSSARY
- 35mm film
It is the standard film size, also known as 135 film. It is 35mm wide, and the individual film frames are 36mm × 24mm.
- Adobe
A software company whose products include Photoshop (for professional artists and photographers) and Photoshop Elements (for amateur or hobbyist photographers).
- AEB
A common abbreviation for auto exposure bracketing.
- aperture
Refers to the opening in the lens that allows light into the camera. When I refer to f-stops, I am talking about the size of the aperture.
- aspect ratio
The ratio between the width and height of an image. Traditional television has an aspect ratio of 4:3, 35mm film is 3:2, and wide-screen television is 16:9.
- auto exposure
Letting the light meter in the camera determine which shutter time and aperture should be used for a given scene.
- auto exposure bracketing (AEB)
When using AEB, the camera takes multiple photos in succession with slightly different exposure settings in an effort to hedge the photographer's bets against the camera's internal light meter measuring the lighting conditions incorrectly.
- auto focus
When using automatic focus, the subject in front of the camera lens is brought into focus by letting the camera determine when the subject is sharpest. Electric motors in the camera focus the lens.
- backlighting
Lighting a subject by placing it between the camera lens and the light source.
- bayonet fitting
A quick-release fitting that attaches a lens to a camera; it is common on all current SLR cameras. The alternative is a screw fitting, ...
