Have you ever wondered how a seesaw works? Or how objects as small as lamps or as large as construction vehicles have more than one main moving part? These are examples of a simple machine called a lever.
A lever is a mechanism that uses a pivot to help add strength to move an object. Besides helping us lift and move things, we can turn levers from a simple machine into a complex machine by adding two or more levers together to create a linkage. Linkages change the direction of motion with normal pivots that enable parts to rotate, as well as focal pivots to provide structure.
