The biggest excursions from the zero point are around Valentine’s Day (-14
minutes) and a little after Halloween (+16 minutes). There are smaller excur-
sions in mid-May (shy of +4 minutes) and mid-July (-6 minutes). On April 1,
when the Equation of Time is about -3 minutes by this convention, you would
measure the sun’s position at 12:03 PM on your clock to measure solar noon.
(Subtract the 3 minutes from clock time to get solar time.)
Since we want to observe this difference with our analemma drawing, we
do our measurements at the same clock time every day (not adding or sub-
