Optical Explorations

Accompanying this interest in shape and scale

are Sayers’ many experiments with perspective

and the geometry of optics. At galleries and

festivals, and in his bedroom, a sauna, and a

sleeper cabin on a train across Uzbekistan,

Sayers has been creating room-sized camera

obscuras using a lens to project the outside

scene inside. (He’ll show you how to make one on
