55Chapter 2: Circuits
Sound Impressions
Sound Impressions, by Marlin Velasco, is a performative wearable that uses e-textile sewing to create
an experimental listening system. Using a microphone, an amplifier, LEDs, a 555 integrated circuit, and
other analog circuitry, Velasco transformed the clothing into a sensitive fabric capable of capturing and
generating sound impressions.
Soft Electric
The Soft Electric, by Grace
Kim, reveals the circuit but
elegantly incorporates the
conductive-thread traces
into the aesthetic of the
felted cape.
