JAKADA IMANI
Jakada is a spiritually rooted coach with over 30 years of experience in social justice movements. His leadership perspective is steeped in the Black freedom struggle, and he has been blessed to learn from some of the best leaders in the country, such as Erica Huggins, Amaha Kassa, and Boots Riley. Before becoming the CEO, Jakada was a coach at The Management Center, supporting clients such as Stacey Abrams's Fair Fight and the California Immigrant Policy Center. He served for six years as executive director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, taking over from the center's founder, Van Jones. During his tenure at EBC, he led the efforts to stop the construction of one of the nation's largest juvenile halls—a “Super Jail for Kids.” He also led two successful statewide ballot measure campaigns, No on Prop 6 in 2008 and No on Prop 23 in 2010. In 2013, he received a ChangeMaker Fellowship from the Pacific School of Religion, where he led a center for spiritual and social transformation. He is blessed to share his life with his wife Laura, and their blended family of six powerful and creative children.
