Learnings and Mistakes
Over the last 15 years, we have observed several human and organizational patterns that persist in AI regardless of the technology used. While more powerful infrastructure and advanced models have changed AI implementations in important ways, the fundamental patterns in Figure 7-1 remain the same and will likely continue in the foreseeable future.
You’ll notice that these lessons are not about the technology of AI. Instead, they reflect the “soft” side of AI management, the cultural and strategic nuances that determine project success. To navigate these, focus on the following core principles:
- Stakeholder education enables adoption
We have seen that educating project stakeholders (such as clients, top executives, and even end users) on AI fundamentals, capabilities, and limitations is essential for collaboration and long-term adoption. When stakeholders understand how AI works and what outcomes are realistic, discussions become more productive, expectations are better managed, and resistance to change is significantly reduced.
