So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Introduction: Why has this book been written?
I started in IT/ICT back in the early 1990s; since then, I have worked in many different environments and organisations. The common theme through most of these was security in its many forms, and how it was affected by new technology, although I was positioned more on the ‘leading edge’ than the ‘bleeding edge’.
I have heard many things and seen many changes in the use of technology. In simple terms, when I started, the Internet did not really exist, so I have seen it all evolve. In my experience, new technology generally has a significant effect but not normally in the way experts predict.
