You have a DAG running Exchange 2010, and now you want to introduce Exchange 2013 and upgrade the DAG so that it runs Exchange 2013. The question is how best to accomplish the task. The answer is pretty simple—you cannot run mixed operating systems within a DAG, a DAG does not support mixed versions of Exchange, and you can’t update a server after Exchange is installed. All these factors mean that you can’t just introduce an Exchange 2013 Mailbox server into a DAG that is currently based on Exchange 2010.
The approach that must be taken is therefore to build a new DAG based on Exchange 2013 and then migrate mailboxes to the new Exchange 2013 DAG after it is fully operational. A general outline of the process is as ...
