The datanode is responsible for storing user data in HDFS clusters. There can be multiple datanodes in an HDFS cluster. A datanode stores data on the physical disks attached to the system hosting the datanode. It is not recommended to store datanode data on disks in a RAID configuration as HDFS achieves data protection by replicating data across datanodes.
