James Burrows is considered by most people to be the master of multicamera American comedies. “I think Jimmy Burrows is the king,” his original mentor, Jay Sandrich, said of his former protégé. “He's gotten so many shows on the air.”

Burrows comes from a theater background, growing up under the wing of his father, renowned Broadway impresario Abe Burrows. When James Burrows finally got into TV in 1974, he began reinventing the sitcom almost immediately.
