Hybrid Membrane Plant Design and Operation

Abstract

A membrane plant encompasses several technologies and processes since a standalone membrane system cannot produce a highly purified product because of physical and chemical constraints of synthetic membranes, and because membranes can foul prematurely in the case of liquid separations if the pre-treatment is not well-designed or is not working effectively. The optimal success of membrane plants, therefore, depends on the ability to operate various systems achieving the highest possible output using minimum energy and generating as little waste as possible with maximum safety for employees and environment.
