Table and Field Properties

Access table and field properties are used to control how objects appear and behave at run time. Every Access table has two types of properties: table properties and field properties. Table properties are set to make the table behave in the manner desired by the developer. All tables in Access 2010 have the same set of properties. Field properties are used to set how the fields in the table behave. In contrast to the properties of a table, each data type has a unique set of properties associated with it. This lesson discusses both table and field properties and provides some examples of how these can be applied to an Access database application.

LESSON SETUP

This lesson lists most of the Access table and field properties and provides an explanation of how they are used and set from the Table Design View mode designer. Note that table and field properties can be set using VBA code at run time, but that is beyond the scope of this lesson and is discussed later on in this book. You should be familiar with creating tables and fields in Access 2010 to complete this lesson successfully.
