Chapter IV.1. Understanding Transact-SQL
Transact-SQL is the primary language you use when communicating with your Microsoft SQL Server 2008 databases. T-SQL is derived from the ANSI/92 standard, which is 686 pages in length (not including the 76-page index).
Clearly, this chapter can't cover all the details of T-SQL, but it does cover some of the basics, such as Data Definition Language (DDL) statements and Data Manipulation Language (DML) statements. You also learn when it's best to use T-SQL and when it's best to use another language.
