In communication engineering, a signal occupies a finite bandwidth. For transmitting information from one place to another, a carrier frequency has to be modulated by the information to be carried, and, thus, sidebands will be produced. The resulting modulated signal occupies a certain amount of bandwidth in the RF spectrum. In addition, carrier frequencies have to be selected in such a way that they do not interfere with adjacent channel frequencies.
