6.1 Introduction

Since the beginning of the 21st century, wireless communication systems have been booming, with a continuous growth in rate, performance, and mobility. Next to increasing the bandwidth allocation and the spectral efficiency of modulation and coding schemes, the use of MIMO has been at the source of an additional dimension exploited to strongly increase the data rates.
