Glossary
Access Router The network element that provides IP connectivity. It is also the node that provides mobility services, including the home agent and fast handover functionalities.
Binding Cache A data structure maintained by the home agents and correspondent nodes which binds the home address to the care-of address. A Binding Cache Entry (BCE) refers to a specific binding of home address to care-of address along with other parameters such as Lifetime, Sequence Numbers, etc.
Binding Update List The list of peers with which a mobile node has sent a Binding Update.
Basic Service Set IDentifier or BSSID Typically the layer 2 address of the access point in WLAN.
Care-of Address The IP address acquired by the MN when visiting a network away from home. Sometimes denoted as CoA.
Context Transfer A protocol to reduce the overhead associated with reestablishing contexts as a function of handover, and hence supports the smooth operation of transport protocols.
Correspondent Node The node with which a mobile node communicates. Sometimes denoted as CN.
Fast Handovers A protocol to reduce delay and packet loss associated with handovers and hence support mobility of real-time applications.
Foreign Agent A node on the visited network that offers mobility services, such as its IP address and tunneling support, to visiting mobile nodes. Sometimes denoted as FA.
Handover A process in which a mobile node disconnects from its existing point of attachment and attaches ...
