When I went on the O’Reilly platform, I was astonished to find all the books there, plus live events and sandboxes so you could play around with the technology.I’ve been on the O’Reilly platform for more than eight years. I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Summary
This chapter examined the upcoming Elasticsearch 5 release, discussed upgrading to version 5, and touched on the new monitoring tools available in the Elasticsearch X-Pack. Some takeaways from this chapter include:
- Elasticsearch 5 has some big performance and reliability gains, but also some breaking changes to the API.
- Elasticsearch-head, Bigdesk, and Kopf are not yet compatible with Elasticsearch 5.
- Elasticsearch 5 is a major release, and upgrading from version 2 may not be a simple process. Be sure to run the Elasticsearch Migration Helper before upgrading.
- The Elasticsearch X-Pack provides a suite of monitoring tools for Elasticsearch 5, but isn't free.
