Chapter 4. NDC Theory
Theories arise to explain practice, even as practice models existing theories. The paradoxical nature of NDC today lies in both the age-old disciplines of mathematics and logic and the phenomena as recent as the early commercial adoption of URLs. The more we learn, the more we realize how little we know.
NDC, as with all of computer science, is founded in theory. This chapter briefly explores some of the theories that are fundamental to computer science and identifies areas of theoretical computer science that are challenged by the explosion of interest in NDC occurring in the Network Age.
