This book is intended as a practical guide to an invaluable tool called SQLTXPLAIN, commonly known simply as SQLT. You may never have heard of it, but if you have anything to do with Oracle tuning, SQLT is one of the most useful tools you’ll find. Best of all, it’s freely available from Oracle. All you need to do is learn how to use it.
How This Book Came to Be Written
I’ve been a DBA for over twenty years. In that time, I dealt with many, many tuning problems yet it was only when I began to work for Oracle that I learned about SQLT. As a part of the tuning team at Oracle Support I used SQLT every day to solve customers’ most complex tuning problems. I soon realized that my experience was not unique.
