I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Hadoop Distributed File System - HDFS
The HDFS forms the underlying basis of all Hadoop installations. Files, or more generally data, is stored in HDFS and accessed by the nodes of Hadoop.
HDFS performs two main functions:
- Namespaces: Provides namespaces that hold cluster metadata, that is, the location of data in the Hadoop cluster
- Data storage: Acts as storage for data used in the Hadoop cluster
The filesystem is termed as distributed since the data is stored in chunks across multiple servers. An intuitive understanding of HDFS can be gained from a simple example, as follows.
