Some recording equipment has become almost obsolete, but you may need to work with it if a client brings older gear into your studio to transfer audio tracks. Some of these formats are listed here.
Analog tape recorder: This recorded 2 to 24 tracks of analog audio on reels of magnetic tape from 1/4 inch to 2 inches wide. Compared to digital recorders, analog recorders had more noise, distortion, frequency-response errors, and unstable pitch. Their electronics and tape heads needed frequent alignment. Still, many people loved the sound of them. Some had mic inputs; all had analog line inputs and line outputs.
