The installation process of SQL Server 2014 can be as easy as executing the Setup Wizard from the installation media and following the prompts in each of the setup screens. The Setup Wizard makes several important decisions for you during this process. Throughout this chapter, you learn about those decisions, as well as the appropriate configurations for a secure, stable, and scalable installation.
The core installation process follows these general steps:
- Plan the system.
- Prepare hardware and software.
- Install the operating system and service packs.
- Set up the I/O subsystem.
- Install SQL Server and service packs.
- Burn in the system.
- Do post-install configurations, if necessary.
